Matei Clej

I was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2017, having read law at Birkbeck and completed the BPTC at City Law School. I am qualified to conduct litigation, accredited at police stations, and authorised to take Public Access instructions.

My work spans criminal defence (with extradition at the heart of the practice), public law and immigration. Reported appellate work includes conviction-warrant appeals on Article 8, section 20 deliberate-absence challenges, and proportionality cases turning on dependent children. In the Crown Court I have appeared in transnational fraud and confiscation matters.

I am fluent in Romanian, with working French and Spanish. I am a member of the Defence Extradition Lawyers' Forum and the Criminal Bar Association, and have delivered extradition training to solicitors' firms.
